The sound of punk was very angry and in your face. They took the rock guitar riffs from glam rock bands and sped them up, added some fast drums and a mixture of anti-policital angry lyrics and you have yourself a punk song! Some of punks earlier influences would be the stooges, until then no one had seen anything like the stooges before with iggy pops attitude of not caring and some of his strange costumes he wore on stage, for example leather trousers with a horses tail on them was much like punk.

A massive influence on punk was David Bowie and his newly created act 'Ziggy Stardust' his crazy make-up and different music influenced punk to be different and outrageous. By the mid 70's punk had took off and early punk bands like the clash, the ramones and most famously the sex pistals had emeraged on the music scene and were like nothing anyone had seen before. Anti-social behavior and angry attitude towards people, politics and generally other music was outrageous and started a massive punk movement all across the world. The sex pistols are probably the most significant band of punk. When someone mensions punk people think of the sex pistols, They were one of the few punk bands to achieve worldwide success and be mainstream with their music.
Heres an example of the sound of punk this is one of the Sex Pistols most famour hits, 'god save the queen'.Punk's image was just crazy and outrageous and on fashion terms the stranger the better. Things like studded leather jackets, dock martin boots, ripped blue jeans spikey belts and crazy spiked and multi-coloured hair was all part of the punk fashion. People did it mainly to be different from everyone else and to get a reaction from people and it worked.
Punk went on to influence many other genres such as, Alternative rock, pop-punk and some 'Emo' music. also some new punk bands such as Green Day, Blink 182 and The Offspring are all influenced by punk and the punk movement.
